Shaving in support of those with cancer

AFTER two of Kelly Neil's closest friends were diagnosed with cancer, losing her hair was the least she could do.

"I've got two friends dealing with cancer at the moment, so I thought, why not?” she said.

One of Mrs Neil's friends is fighting lymphoma, a type of blood cancer, and her other friend is battling breast cancer.

She had never had her hair so short and said she hated maintaining her hair, so the shave was a great way to support her friends and change her hairstyle.

Mrs Neil has a target of raising $540 for the Leukaemia Foundation's World's Greatest Shave.

She was not the only person in the South Burnett who was brave enough to shave, with several others from Murgon to Nanango taking part in events last week.

Murgon's Alicia Pigeon, from Alicia's Spa and Hair Worx, took part in an event in Murgon on Friday, shaving or colouring 10 to 12 people for the cause.

Lymphoma, leukaemia and myeloma are types of blood cancer. They can develop in anyone at any age.

More than 60,000 Australians are living with blood cancer or related disorders and every day another 35 people will be diagnosed.

Blood cancer is the third most common cause of cancer death in Australia, claiming more lives than breast cancer or melanoma.
