No chance of goal drought

FOOTBALL: The South-West Thunder women believe they are adapting well to life without last season's top scorer.

The Thunder go into it's National Premier Leagues Queensland game on Sunday against Gold Coast City on the back of a 9-1 win over Sunshine Coast.

Abbey Lloyd scored 23 goals for the club last year, but is staying with the Brisbane Roar women during its W-League pre-season preparations.

Assistant coach Anthony Bigby says the team still has a long way to go before they can start mounting a finals challenge.

"If you look at the game before, lets not get ahead of ourselves it is one big win and one big loss,” he said.

"Abbey's contributions last year were big as our leading scorer so it is a bit early to say she has been replaced.

"Hopefully we can make up for the fact that we no longer have her to rely on.”

The Thunder haven't played a game in three weeks after a wash-out and the Easter holidays gave the team a longer-than-expected hiatus from action.

The Thunder men will face Olympic in Brisbane on Sunday, as they hunt down a first win of the season.
