Less than a fortnight to get enrolled to vote

SOUTH-west Brisbane residents will go to the polls on March 31 for the local government elections.

Enrolment and voting are compulsory in the elections, which will be held throughout Queensland.

The electoral roll for the council elections will close on Tuesday, January 31.

On election day, voters will elect a total of 73 mayors and 488 local councillors throughout Queensland.

It's compulsory for all Australian citizens - 18-years and older - to enrol to vote and residents must be enrolled before voting in Australian elections.

Residents are being encouraged to enrol and check their enrolment details for the upcoming elections.

The website also contains a list of all councils and the particular election arrangements that will operate in each.

Nomination of candidates officially opens on Saturday, February 11 and closes on Tuesday, February 28.
