USQ Bachellor of Applied Media student Tyler Henderson was among the students excited to find out their student-produced TV show was up for a Logie nomination.
WHAT do Australian soap opera Home and Away, television presenter Kyle Sandilands and a group of University of Southern Queensland students at Springfield have in common?
They are all in the running to win Australian television's most widely publicised award.
As part of their final assessment, Bachelor of Applied Media students were challenged to produce a weekly community television show called Good Business.
The program, screened on local television station QCTV-31, was designed to give students practical experience within the industry.
But it seems those involved were already at an industry standard, after learning last week their assessment piece was nominated for a TV Week Logie award.
Tyler Henderson was among the third-year students who worked on the show and said he was shocked when he heard the news.
"We never expected this kind of recognition," the 21-year-old said. "It feels great and it is such an honour to be nominated.
"Our group sacrificed a lot of time, energy and sleep making each episode...but it was a great opportunity and a project that all of us enjoyed."
The program is a candidate in the Most Popular Factual Program category alongside such shows as Bondi Rescue, Hot Property and Undercover Boss: Australia.
BAM lecturer Ashley Jones has worked in media for 35 years and said he was constantly amazed by the creativity and passion of his students.
"But this is the first time I have heard of a student-produced program nominated for such a prestigious award like the Logies," he said.
"Industry recognition like this will be a huge plus for the students...the achievement is a credit to all their hard work and dedication."
