Western Suburbs fifth grade second team captain Matthew Dyson will be supporting the McGrath Foundation's Pink Stumps Day.
LOOKING like a clown while fielding in the outfield is a price Matthew Dyson is willing to pay as he knows it is for a good cause.
While most cricketers across the country will be sporting pink hats or pink shirts to support the McGrath Foundation's Pink Stumps Day this Saturday, the skipper of Western Suburbs' fifth grade second team has gone a step further.
"I've got a pink wig and I've told my team-mates that if we get enough donations I'll where the pink wig during the game," Dyson told The Satellite.
Western Suburbs District Cricket Club is one of hundreds of cricket clubs across the country to throw its support behind the McGrath Foundation's national fundraising event, which raises money to fund breast care nurses in many communities and aims to increase breast cancer awareness in young woman.
Dyson promised a pink spectacle when his team runs out onto the field for their cricket match against Wynnum Manly this weekend.
"We're getting right into the pink theme," the 29-year-old police officer said.
"Everything's going to be pink; pink shirts, pink hats, pink bat grips, pink wicketkeeper pads and gloves, even pink boundary markers.
"Literally everything will be pink."
Dyson has been the club's biggest advocate for the fundraising event and said he was bowled over by how quickly his team-mates jumped on board.
"They all got behind it straight away and ordered their own pink McGrath Foundation shirt, which will be worn during the game," he said.
Down the road Graceville Memorial Park will also boast pink stumps for Wests' second grade match.
Dyson said the fundraiser would not be possible without the support of his own club, Wynnum Manly and Corinda Hardware for donating the pink paint to mark the lines.
"I think cricket is already a great game, but anything the game can do to support this cause is a great thing," he said.
