Deux Belettes Guesthouse in Dalwood
AN EXCLUSIVE North Coast bed and breakfast has made it into an elite fashion magazine read by the Queen of England.
Deux Belettes in Dalwood is listed among 101 of the world's best hotels in Tatler Magazine's 2012 Travel Guide.
Focusing on the lives of Britain's upper class, the magazine was founded in 1709 and boasts "the wealthiest readership of any women's magazine in the UK".
The owner of Deux Belettes, who did not want to be named, said she was shocked to see her home, which is modelled on a 16th century-style French chateau, on the magazine's first inside page.
"You don't think you will end up in an international magazine like Tatler, which is read by the Queen and the Royal Family," the owner said.
Asked how she felt about her home being viewed by Her Majesty, the owner laughed.
"I'd be terrified to think she might want to come and stay here," she said.
Incredibly, the article in Tatler was written by two descendents of Napoleon I, twin brothers Louis and Philippe de Rohan, who stayed at Deux Belettes while waiting out the floods of January 2011.
"The highway was cut off at Grafton so they ended up staying for four days," explained Deux Belettes manager Sven Christian.
While in Dalwood, the French travellers witnessed a cane toad swarm, went surfing, made preserves and took plenty of photos of the 12ha property.
"They were lovely guests and it was a real family atmosphere," Mr Christian said.
"We didn't hear from them again and now they've written this fantastic story."
Mr Christian said he celebrated the magazine story in typically French fashion.
"We cracked open a bottle of champagne because it was good recognition of all the work we've done to be noticed on an inter-national scale," he said.
