Hymba Yumba singing at National Sorry Day celebrations
AUSTRALIANS from all walks of life gathered at Hymba Yumba Community Hub in Springfield to commemorate National Sorry Day.
The day, held each year on May 26, recognises past mistreatment of Aboriginals and Torres Strait Islanders.
Elders, teachers, families and students of Hymba Yumba took part in celebrations that included cultural dancing, singing, speeches and poetry readings.
Hymba Yumba principal Colleen Mitrow said it was important to recognise the wonderful Aboriginal culture and its resilience that has grown and thrived over the years.
“Sorry Day is a day to bring people together and feel the great solidarity among the indigenous culture,” she said.
