New police for Oxley

POLICE services in Oxley will soon receive a welcome boost with six new police graduates set to hit the streets in coming weeks.

State Member for Mount Ommaney, Julie Attwood, said the six first year Constables would be a valuable new addition to the local police service.

“These new officers were part of a group of 82 graduates who were sworn in at the Oxley Academy on Friday,” Ms Attwood said.

“The fact that six of them will remain here in Oxley is great news for the local community.

“We'll have more police on the beat helping to tackle criminal and unacceptable behaviour, and that means a safer suburb.”

Police Minister Neil Roberts said the other graduates would be stationed in South Brisbane, Wynnum, Bundaberg, Caboolture, Gympie, Kingaroy, Maryborough, Redcliffe, Gold Coast, Ipswich, and Toowoomba, as well as Brisbane's north, south-east and metropolitan areas.

“These officers will be a very welcome addition to police services in each of these Queensland communities,” he said.

“The graduates are some of the 203 additional officers being funded by the State Government this year as part of our three-year commitment to have 10,600 Queensland Police officers by March 2012.

“This government is committed to working with our police service towards delivering safer communities and a more secure Queensland.

“I have no doubt these officers will embrace their posting to Oxley with great professionalism and enthusiasm.”
