Eight juniors win awards

EIGHT junior Ipswich sportspeople who have gained a Queensland or Australian jersey in their chosen sport will receive Ipswich City Council Sports Recognition Awards for the month of July.

They are Macey Reilly who represented Queensland in the Australian Country Hockey Championships, Matthew Uebergang for representing Queensland in the National AFL Championships, Elijah Umu representing Queensland in Rugby League under 18's Maroons team, Chelsea Orbell and Jason Ralph representing Queensland in the under 16's Junior Basketball Championships, Jacob Purcell representing Australia at the JKF Gojukai (Karate) International Championships, and Megan Gianotti and Leah Neale for representing Australia in swimming at the Trans Tasman Tour event.

Volleyball player, Ben McCulloch received a Senior Sports Recognition Award for representing Queensland at the Australian Volleyball Championships.

“The winners are now in the running for our quarterly Sport Achiever Awards which provide $400 awards to reward excellence in sport,” Ipswich parks, sport and recreation committee chairperson, councillor David Morrison said.

“Junior and senior sportspeople are encouraged to apply for the August Sport Recognition Awards which are now open.”
