Drink Rite to curb anti-social behaviour

TO help combat drink driving, Goodna RSL have started a new program to encourage groups enjoying a night out to nominate a designated driver for the evening.

The Skipper Program has just started and entitles the designated driver to free soft drinks all night.

Operations manager, Jan Monrad, said the anti-drink driving campaign was a way for the RSL to give back to the community.

“Customers come up and let us know they're the designated driver for the night,” she said.

“All they have to do is fill out a form, and they get a band to put around their wrist, then we supply free soft drinks to them for the night.

“Then at the end of the night they can drive their friends home safely.”

General manager Deb Colbert said the RSL did have a courtesy bus that looked after patrons well, but there were other people who liked to come to the club on their own.

“This is the first time we've run this program, and it will be ongoing,” she said.

“In our house there's always a designated driver before we go out, and it's good for them to be recognised.”
