THE last time she was in the paper it was for her singing. Now Remi Kamo has shone in another arena – netball.
The 16-year-old 17 Mile Rocks resident, who once travelled the world as part of the famous Qantas ad with the Australian Girls Choir, has been chosen as one of only 15 netballers around the state to be part of an Elite Development Squad launched by Netball Queensland.
And while her 180cm frame may not help with her singing, it is definitely an advantage on the netball court.
If she likes the program, which is aligned with the Firebirds, it could mean an open door to the elite level for Kamo.
But the towering teen admitted that she's not entirely sure if she'll try to go professional in the sport, even though her height brings her a natural advantage.
Nevertheless the year 12 student, who trains two mornings a week, said she was honoured with her selection into the elite development squad.
“It's a pretty big honour because there was only a few of us chosen,” she said.
Kamo plays goalkeeper and sometimes goal defence with her State Netball League Tier Two team the Yellow Cabs Lions.
