WESTERN Spirit’s ace goalscorer Phil Randal showed his club commitment by helping inspire two victories in one day.
Having just returned from his grandmother’s funeral in New Zealand, Randal scored all four goals for the Spirit Reserve Grade team in Sunday’s win over North Star.
With Spirit down 1-0 at halftime in the main game at O’Callaghan Park, Randal came on in the second half to again cause havoc. He scored another goal and set one up as Spirit rallied to beat North Star 4-2.
The super effort kept Spirit at the top of the table with three wins from three outings on their return to Division 1.
“I really tip my hat off to Phil,” co-coach Nev O’Sullivan said. “He just made the difference, him and Lukey Haydon.”
O’Sullivan said the game – Spirit’s toughest opponents so far – showed Spirit’s depth.
“We’ve got a squad of about 20 players that if they’re not on their day, they know they won’t be in the team next week,” O’Sullivan said.
“That’s keeping everyone on their toes.”
