HIS shorts almost reach down to his ankles and if his jersey had long sleeves, it could double as a snuggie.
But despite Jamboree Heights’ Jackson Miller requiring a few years to grow properly into his playing apparel, nothing was going to stop him from playing basketball this season.
Despite initial concerns from his parents, the diminutive Jackson became the youngest player to ever pull on the West Brisbane Falcons colours when he played his first club game on February 13.
At just four years of age, he’s playing against players almost four years his senior.
And while he’s small in stature, Jackson’s father Daryl said he’s big in heart.
“He’s been dragged to basketball stadiums since he was born through me coaching and watching his sister (Rebekah) play,” he explained.
“At the end of last season he asked me when it was his turn to play.
“He was mad keen to get involved and we ummed and ahhed about it, but after taking him to a couple of training sessions he loved it and he was confident enough to handle it.”
Jackson has so far played five games for the Jindalee-based Falcons in the new Brisbane Basketball Association under-8s competition.
Jackson’s greatest moment during his so far short career came on February 27, when he scored his first points.
“He managed to sneak around a few boys and girls and sneak one in (the ring),” Jackson’s father beamed.
“Jackson was so proud, he ran around the court clapping. He actually claps when the other teams score as well, but he’s just enjoying being a part of it rather than watching his sister play.”
