THREE Forest Lake College students are tipped to perform well at this year’s Australian Youth Track and Field Championships.
Hannah Joye, Terri-Ann Cain and Samantha Formby will compete at the four-day event at Sydney’s Olympic Park in Homebush, beginning tomorrow (Thursday, March 11).
Hannah has the busiest schedule of the three girls, with the 14-year-old set to compete in four events in the under-14 girls’ age group (triple jump, long jump, high jump and 400m).
While Terri-Ann’s hopes of a medal have been given a timely boost with her surprise announcement as Queensland’s best emerging indigenous sportsperson at last month’s Indigenous Sport Queensland Awards ceremony.
The 14-year-old pocket rocket is expected to push for a medal in the under-14 girls’ 100m and 200m sprints.
The former Durack State School student will also be competing in the triple jump event, while Samantha will be pitting her speed against the country’s best young sprinters in the girls under-13 100m dash.
Forest Lake College health, physical education and sport head of department, Richard Haines, said all three students couldn’t wait for the Australian Youth Track and Field Championships to begin.
He added that they were all determined to achieve strong results.
