FULL marks deserve to go to Jamboree Residents Association, Westside Church of Christ and Centenary Bicycle Users Group for braving the wet weather to clean up a four km section of the Centenary Bikeway on Saturday.
Thousands of people around the country participated in Clean Up Australia Day, which was officially held on Sunday, but the three local groups scheduled their clean up for the Saturday as it suited their members better.
Despite the awful weather, about 25 workers turned up to lend a hand, by picking up rubbish, removing fallen branches and cutting grass.
Organiser Wayne Williams was surprised by the enthusiasm shown from the participants and through a wet smile said the team toiled hard in the 20mm of rain that fell in the morning and did a magnificent job under the circumstances.
“About 20 tonnes of vegetation in two piles and 12 bags of motorists discards is testament to the effort that was put in on a very wet Saturday,” he said.
The clean up team received donations of various kinds from Mitre10, Mt Ommaney Shopping Centre, Yamaha Golf Cars, Translink and Jindalee McDonalds.
