WESTERN Suburbs will miss the Brisbane First Grade finals for the first time in many seasons, but they’ll still have plenty to play for when their final round match against Valley resumes play this Saturday.
Western Suburbs District Cricket Club remain narrowly ahead of Toombul on the Club Championship table and despite Wests’ first grade side, the club’s only team not contending for the semi-finals, the Club Championship could hinge on the result from their match.
Wests’ premier grade side did their best to give themselves a chance for victory despite rain interrupting most of the first day’s play at Peter Easton Oval.
Wests took half-a-dozen scalps as Valley finished the day 6-129.
Wests’ bowlers shared the wickets as Cameron Glass was the only bowler to claim mutliple scalps (2-26).
