Water-filled barriers keep ponies jumping

THE Darra Oxley Pony Club in Richlands was jumping for joy with the donation of used water-filled barriers from the State Government’s Ipswich Motorway Upgrade: Wacol to Darra project.

Member for Inala and Pony Club Patron, Annastacia Palaszczuk, said the barriers, which can no longer be used on road upgrade projects due to damage, have been donated to the pony club to use for show jumping training.

“What may be unusable to the project can be a bonus for others and the Darra Oxley Pony Club will be delighted to use these barriers for show jumping and field obstacles,” she said.

“More than 55 water-filled barriers have been donated to the club already and more are likely to become available before the end of the upgrade works.

“In addition to the water-filled barriers, almost 200 bollards and traffic cones will also be donated to the club to use around their courses.

“Local clubs rely on the generosity of the community for donations and these items will be of great use to the club.

“It’s great to see the Wacol to Darra project team has thought about the local community when making the decision about the future of these damaged barriers.”

Darra Oxley Pony Club president, Simon Fox, said the barriers would provide much needed equipment for the club.

“Road barriers are a great show jumping training tool as they are a good height for medium level jumpers and do not require setting up,” he said.
