Some of the officers outside Springfield Police Station.
THE new Springfield Police Station is now well and truly open for business, with the station going 24-hours on February 12.
The $4.185 million state-of-the-art station still has that new paint smell, but it is already humming with the activity of 18 general duties police officers and eight Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) officers.
All this means a greater police presence in the Springfield area, with the station covering Springfield, Springfield Lakes, Springfield Central, Redbank Plains, Bellbird Park, Brookwater and Augustine Heights.
Officer-in-charge, Acting Senior Sergeant Geoff Noller, said it was not just crime that would get extra attention, but there would also be a greater police presence in the general community with a plan to get all of the local schools in the adopt-a-cop program.
He said as Springfield continued to grow there was also the possibility there would be a PCYC, shopfront at Orion and even another police station on the other side of Springfield on the cards in the future.
The new station, which was a 2006 election promise from the State Government, is located on Augusta Parkway and the front counter is open from 8am to 6pm weekdays.
There is a blue emergency phone out the front to use when the counter is unattended.
• The phone number for the Springfield Police Station is 3814 8999.
