THE word is spreading throughout south-east Queensland.

A growing number of Ipswich foodies know the place to get the region's best pork rolls, sugar cane juice or Pho is less than a 30 minute drive from the CBD.

Inala Plaza has been described as a small pocket of Vietnam located just outside of Ipswich.

In the 2011 census more than 15% of Inala's 18,000 residents identified as being Vietnamese.

It is thanks to talented cooks like Huong Trinh who have brought their best traditional recipes with them to Australia, that Inala Plaza now boasts some of the most authentic Vietnamese cuisine in the state.

Ms Trinh moved to Australia with her family from Vietnam in the 1980s and, like the two generations before her, used her skills to make fresh pork rolls, or Bahn Mi.

Now her store, Minh Tan Bakery, is known to sell the best Bahn Mi in Brisbane.

"Pork rolls are a staple food in Vietnam and are now popular in many other cultures," she said.

"People tell us they come from very far away to get here and we were voted to have the best pork roll in Brisbane.

"My family made pork rolls in Vietnam and my grandparents made fresh rolls for the Australian soldiers during the Vietnam War in 1969 and 1970."

Ms Trinh's parents started a corner store when they first came to Australia.

"They specialised in pork roll and steam buns," she said.

"We have been in the bakery business for more than 20 years."

The business owner said Inala Plaza was well-known for its traditional dining options.

"People come here for the food," she said.

"A lot of places specialise in Asian cuisine and people get value for money here.

"We have survived this long because we do this well. You have got to have quality."

Other retailers in the Plaza also have their specialities.

In the outdoor area of the popular Inala shopping centre visitors will find Vietnamese specialities like Pho, fresh sugar cane juice, noodle dishes, freshly made dumplings and soups.

The Plaza is also known for its array of fruits and vegetables and also boasts a wide variety of seafood vendors who are renowned for the freshness of their product.
