TOOWOOMBA pianist Noralyn Jowett will use a $20,000 scholarship to travel to the United Kingdom and develop her musical skills.

Ms Jowett was announced as this year's recipient of the Joyce Campbell Lloyd Scholarship.

The scholarship was established in 1998 to enable USQ music graduates the chance to travel and enhance their musical careers.

Next year, Ms Jowett plans to spend up to three months in the UK taking private lessons and attending summer schools.

She will focus on solo piano, accompaniment and improvisation.

In the interim, Ms Jowett will continue to teach the piano to students locally and perform regularly.

"My ultimate goal is a full-time career in music as both a performer and educator," she said.

"I hope to continually develop my music skills and share my gifts."

Ms Jowett was named the recipient of the scholarship after competing against other musicians at a concert on Saturday evening.

"Noralyn stunned the audience with her technical skill and her dramatic interpretation of complex works by Mendelssohn and Ravel," USQ Dean of Arts Professor Peter Goodall said.

Ms Jowett started piano lessons at the age of 11 and excelled in music throughout her secondary and tertiary schooling. She completed her USQ Bachelor of Creative Arts with distinction in this year.
