Bartender excites with a cocktail of flair, fun and fire

TOOWOOMBA bartender Shane Finnegan's recipe for a good night includes just the right amount of fire.

Mr Finnegan has travelled the world plying his trade and, not surprisingly, he has picked up a number of bar-tending tricks.

One of the most spectacular and crowd pleasing is his fire twirling and breathing.

Using a special fire fuel, Mr Finnegan carefully places weighted napkins in the necks of empty bottle, and then sets them on fire.

He also takes a sip of the fuel in his mouth.

Flipping and catching bottles in the air is a feat in itself, yet Mr Finnegan whips them around with ease when they are ablaze.

His show ends with a squirt from his mouth and a three-metre flame.Mr Finnegan showed off his self-taught talents for the first time in Toowoomba at his new workplace, the Olive Branch Lounge Bar and Restaurant, during Melbourne Cup celebrations.

Although he has only been with the Ruthven St eatery for two weeks, his antics have caused quite a stir.

"Before I put the menu out, I thought it would take people a while to get used to it," He said.

"But the cocktails are literally flying out the door.

"It's like what they say: 'stack them high, watch it fly'."

But it is not just the 25-year-old's showman-like skills that are causing a fuss, it is also his creations.

Like a chef might craft his food, Mr Finnegan spends a lot of time considering his cocktail recipes and menu.

"I tend not to use flavoured alcohol," he said.

"I stick with vodka and use fresh fruit to add flavour."
