THE Sunshine Coast was swept up in One Direction mania yesterday with boy band members Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson spotted amongst the breakers at a Kawana beach

Payne and Tomlinson were treated to some nice early morning swell between Warana and Wurtulla yesterday morning.

The boys were learning the ropes from Sunshine Coast big wave surfer Mark Visser.

Visser could not be contacted for comment yesterday but disclosed his meeting with the pop stars on his Facebook page immediately after their surf together.

"Just went for surf with Liam and Louis from One Direction," he posted.

"The boys were loving the warm water compared to the UK.

"Hope your concert goes well tonight fellas:)."

Tomlinson tweeted that he enjoyed the glassy waves of Wurtulla and said he had great morning surf.

The members weren't bothered by onlookers with the world's biggest boy band going virtually unnoticed to the few onlookers who were there.

Rumours surrounding the boy band's Coast visit ran rampant throughout the day with members spotted getting cosy with some animals at Australia Zoo.

From all reports One Direction enjoyed their brief break on the Coast, getting much needed down time before playing to last night's sold out crowd at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre.
