Lest we forget

Remembrance Day
Remembrance Day

AT 11am on November 11, 1918, the guns on the Western Front fell silent after more than four years of battle.

This peace settlement symbolised the end of World War I, after German forces accepted the Allied Armies' terms of unconditional surrender.

This day became known as Remembrance Day, a day to reflect and honour those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for their country.

Now, 94 years on, Australians still continue to pause on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month for a minute of silence in honour of those who have lost their lives during war and armed conflicts.

You too can pay tribute to the thousands of Australians who fought so bravely to defend our country at a number of Remembrance Day services throughout the city.
