POLICE are on the hunt for a group of offenders who allegedly broke into a Chinchilla business in the early hours of this morning before reportedly pulling a knife on the security guard.

The security guard from Roma Security found the alleged intruders inside the Followmont Transport building on Carmichael Street at approximately 2am this morning.

After confronting the guard with a knife, the alleged offenders jumped into one of the company's vehicles and rammed through a double glass doorway and two-and-a-half metre high wire fence to make their getaway.

Police are yet to make any arrests.

Dalby CIB officer-in-charge, Detective Sergeant Col Harvey, said in addition to the significant damage caused, a number of items were also stolen from the business.

"The vehicle- a white toll van- was located shortly afterwards in Windmill Rd," Det Sgt. Harvey said.

"Police are requesting anyone who has seen this vehicle in that area during those hours to contact police."

While the security guard sustained no injuries during the incident, Roma Security owner and managing director, Robbie O'Toole said guards were increasingly being exposed to greater risk in Chinchilla.

"It's not the first time. It was fairly serious... The guard rang me last night when it happened. It's a serious crime, pulling a knife on a security guard," Mr O'Toole said.

"We're just happy that the guard wasn't hurt. We try to keep our people well-trained in how to handle these sorts of situations."
