Flames damage Darra hotel roof
FIREFIGHTERS fought a blaze in a Darra hotel that severely damaged the roof of the building.
Fire broke out above the building's kitchen and Queensland Fire and Rescue teams responded after smoke was reported coming from the Hotel Monier on Monier Rd at 7am, last Thursday.
A group of friends - two of them staff members of the hotel - were meeting in front of the venue to go for a group motorcycle ride.
"Because of the thick fog in the morning, it was at first hard to tell if the smoke was coming from the building," one of them said.
"But as soon as we realised what was happening, we called the fire department right away."
About eight fire trucks arrived on the scene along with a telescopic ladder for a roof entry.
Queensland Fire and Rescue acting superintendent David Herman said damage to the ceiling was extensive but nobody was injured.
Investigations as to the cause of the fire are still under way.
