Davis leads Wests' charge

WESTERN Suburbs found an unexpected saviour in the form of young gun Mitchell Davis on Saturday.

Davis posted his maiden first-grade century as he and Adam O'Sullivan (62) mounted a stunning lower-order fight back to put Wests in the box seat of their two-day Brisbane cricket competition encounter against Redlands.

Reeling at 7-106, Davis joined the in-form O'Sullivan for a 155-run stand to steer Wests to a formidable total of 269.

Davis was fearless in the middle, showing tremendous poise with bursts of attacking brilliance during his 101-run effort.

He smashed nine boundaries, including two sixes, before becoming the final man to fall.

Wests' bowlers will look to ensure victory when play resumes on Saturday.
