FOOTBALL: It's the ultimate David v Goliath battle, but underdog Canberra Olympic is aiming to add some gold to its diamond anniversary year.

The minnows from the nation's capital take on the might of Sydney FC in tomorrow night's FFA Cup semi-final at Viking Park, hopeful of causing an upset of monumental size.

The Sky Blues have torn it up in the opening two rounds of the A-League season, slotting eight goals in consecutive wins over New South Wales rivals the Wanderers and Mariners.

Without a team in the national competition, Canberra was buzzing in the lead-up to the clash with almost 400 fans turning up to cheer on their team during a final light training session at Deakin Stadium earlier this week.

"We're thrilled to share this moment with Canberra and hope to give our supporters something to cheer about. We'll be doing our best against arguably the form side in the A-League at the moment,” Canberra Olympic coach Frank Cachia said.

"We're being very realistic about not only what is ahead on Wednesday night but also what we've achieved so far to actually get here.”

Olympic recorded wins over Surfers Paradise Apollo, Redlands United and Green Gully to reach the final four.

Goalkeeper Angelo Konstantinou has kept three clean sheets since the club made the round of 32, a record only matched by Sydney FC.

"Even in games where we've had less possession than the opposition, our back four and midfield have been exceptional, but we know this is another level again,” Konstantinou said.

A crowd of about 6000 is tipped to turn up at Viking Park tomorrow night.

The second semi-final will be held next Wednesday with Melbourne City taking on Melbourne Victory at AAMI Park after the former's thumping 4-1 win at Etihad Stadium on Saturday night.
