DON'T throw mud.

That's Smashing Pumpkins front man Billy Corgan's festival advice for Splendour in the Grass punters.

The singer songwriter stopped by the Beach Hotel this morning for an interview at The Riff Recovery Breakfast, broadcast live on Channel V.

Corgan told the Channel V presenters he had never crowd surfed, although he used to stage dive and once dislocated his shoulder and had to play the rest of his set with the injury.

He recommended punters not try to have "their '90s moment" at his festival-closing set tomorrow night.

The veteran performer said headline acts had to "pull out something special" during their sets to amp up tired festival-goers.

This is the first time Corgan has performed at Splendour and he said he had heard the festival was a vibrant one.

After his interview he posed for photos with fans before being whisked away in a waiting van.
