MISS Pixie is stuck in the 1950s. Lips stained red, hair curled and groomed and Elvis's swivelling hips clear in her mind.

For the past 30-odd years, Miss Pixie has lived the life of a pin-up and paid meticulous attention to her appearance all day, every day.

"In society these days, most women work full time, they cook and clean, they don't spend any time on themselves. We often forget we're all beautiful women," she said.

"I encourage women to spend some time on themselves to look and feel like a girl.

"When you look good, you feel good."

Miss Pixie said spending a little extra time dressing and doing hair and make-up makes you "feel like a million dollars all day".

"We've lost that in this day and age," she said.

"I was brought up on Elvis by my parents. At the ripe old age of seven, my parents took me to see Elvis live. My father paid the busboy an extra tip to sit at the front table. Elvis was literally a couple of metres away.

"Through my teens, I was very lost, until I was introduced in the early '80s to the rockabilly scene."

It wasn't until she attended a 1950s-themed prom and asked the hairdresser to do her hair to match, that she found her calling.

"It took four hours, she had no idea. I came out crying and pulled my hair out. I needed to learn to do it myself," she said.

"There was no internet, so I spent six months at the state library in Sydney looking at old magazine reels to give me a visual of how to achieve these hair styles."

Now Miss Pixie teaches others how to do their hair and make-up.

"You can see your inner beauty that's busting to get out, it's a life-changing experience," she said.

Miss Pixie is heading to the Sunshine Coast on May 26 for workshops and mini photo shoots hosted by PinupSkool Magazine and Miss Pixie's Boogie Bop Dames.
